The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has issued a warning to the public regarding a fake recruitment portal that has been circulating online.
According to Isa AbdulMumin, CBN’s acting director of corporate communications, the fraudulent website is inviting “eligible” Nigerians to submit job applications for a supposed recruitment exercise that will commence soon.
AbdulMumin said the fake portal requires applicants to possess a Bank Verification Number (BVN) and exclude individuals with physical disabilities from applying.
However, the CBN confirmed that it is not currently carrying out any general recruitment exercise and has never requested the BVN of intending applicants.
“The fraudulent website lists requirements for eligibility to include, among other qualifications, the possession of a Bank Verification Number (BVN),” he said.
“The portal goes on to state that those with physical disabilities are not eligible to apply.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the CBN is currently not carrying out any general recruitment exercise.”
The CBN also warned members of the public to be wary of fraudulent recruitment agents who are taking advantage of the employment challenge to defraud young graduates and other eligible applicants.
The apex bank added that it would never discriminate against persons with physical disabilities in any recruitment exercise.
“Members of the public are hereby warned to be wary of fraudulent recruitment agents bent on taking advantage of the employment challenge to defraud eligible applicants, particularly young graduates,” he said.
