The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the arrest of former Governor of Imo State, Senator Rochas Okorocha.

 

Okorocha was picked up Tuesday in Abuja and is presently in the custody of the anti-graft commission.

 

Spokesman of the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, who confirm the arrest Tuesday said Okorocha was picked up and being held in connection with allegations arising from his tenure as governor of Imo State.

 

Uwujaren said he could not say for how long Okorocha will be in their custody or when he will be charged to court, adding that due process will be followed.

 

He also alleged  that Okorocha had been evading arrest for a while, refusing severally to honor invitations by the agency to come to answer to the charges against him.

 

According to him, Okorocha, who represents Orlu zone in the Senate was presently being quizzed by operatives of the commission and would be charged to court at the end of their investigations.

 

Okorocha has been having a running battle with the incumbent governor of the state, Senator Hope Uzodinma over alleged looting of the properties and treasury of the state.

 

He was governor for two terms (2011-2019) before taking up the senate seat he presently occupies.
