The Anambra State chairman of Civil Liberties Organization, CLO, comrade Vincent Ezekwueme, Sunday decried with disdain the non election of an Igboman as the presidential candidate in any of the two major political parties, All Progressives  Congress, APC and the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in the coming 2023 general election.

According to him, both parties would have in the spirit of justice, equity, patriotism, morality and good conscience elected   Southeasterners as their presidential  candidates.

In a press statement tagged “The Future is Bright,” signed by Ezekwueme, and his executive members, Chidi Mbah and Hyginus Udensi, secretary and treasurer respectfully, and made available to newsmen in Onitsha, CLO described their action as selfish and self-centered.

“To our greatest consternation and disbelief our political leaders who went to Asaba to endorse out of their own conviction much cherished and celebrated Asaba declaration by Southern political leaders that the next president should come from South worked and voted against actualization of Nigeria President of Igbo extraction by voting massively for candidates from other zones that have had their own opportunity to rule the country.”

“Such monumental betrayal and selfishness have always been the greatest bane of the Southeast efforts towards properly reintegrating herself in the leadership of the country and reach its pride of place in the nation.

It is note worthy that unless and until we replace avarice with selflessness, nepotism with patriotism, mediocrity with meritocracy, injustice with justice , our much cherished Nigeria President of Igbo extraction will continue to elude us.”

“All hope is not lost if we can repent, live above self and think and work for common good and interest, we will still make our bad good, our good better, our better best”

“We call for aggressive and patriotic sensitization and mobilization of citizens to obtain their permanent Voters Card, PVC. It is pertinent to note that politics drives socio-economic, political, religious and social life of every nation, hence the inexorable need for all adults suffrage to take active part.”

“We appeal to Ohanaeze Ndigbo, political, religious, markets and Civil Society Organization’s ‘leaders to commence ineluctable operation obtain and show your voters card as a way and means of motivating and encouraging citizens to participate actively in their civic responsibilities.

It is of prime importance to note that rights without responsibilities is one of the worst blunders of the world. We commend efforts of INEC to deploy and employ more hands and capturing machines in the South east in view of upsurge of prospective registrants.”

“More concerted efforts, commitments and sacrifices  are needed especially in these increasing days and hours  for registration officials to work on  Sundays to ensure that everyone is captured and registered”

He however commended APC and PDP delegates from Ebonyi State during their presidential primary elections for not only voting for their conscience and conviction but have bought and brought honour, glory, trust and goodwill to the Igbo nation adding, “when a leader is right be with him, if he is still right stay with him and commend him, in order to encourage, motivate and propel him to do more”
