ASUU-PLASU embarks on indefinite strike action

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Plateau State University, PLASU, chapter, Bokkos has embarked on an indefinite strike action over failure of Plateau State Government to implement the agreement they have signed.

The union said they declared a total, comprehensive and indefinite strike at PLASU following the report of the national executive council visitation team during which it was established that the state government has fail to implement the second agreement sign in 2022 with the union.

ASUU Chairman comrade Dr. Hassan Monday Zitta and secretary Deme Samson Bitrus, Plateau State University chapter, in a statement made available to newsmen in Jos Thursday, said the ASUU national president granted the branch her request to resume it’s suspended strike.

According to them, the branch held it’s congress meeting on Thursday 9th of November 2023, and declared a total, comprehensive and indefinite strike untill all the issues in contention are resolved.

Other issues they claimed are, inadequate capital project by the state government, provision of additional hostel accommodation, tiring and completion of road network on campus and provision of staff quarters.

Other issues raised by the union were that of completion of parameter fencing of the university and ensuring a functional training policy with budgetory allocation for the training of scholars by the visitor.

They also demanded for provision of a functional police outpost in the university’s host community and deployment of the services of 15 armed civil defence corps as well as the payment of outstanding earn academic allowances and other issues affecting productivity in the university.

Finally, they said if the issues raised are addressed by the university management and the state government they will call off the strike action.
