Boko Haram, you will be counted ,NPC, assures Abadam, residents

The Federal Commissioner, National Population Commission (NPC), Barrister Isa Buratai has saud that the commission has demarcated 773 Enumerator Demarcation Area except Abadam and   assured the people of the Abadan local government of Borno state that they be counted in the forthcoming population and housing Census exercise, despite the security situation in the area.

 

 

 

Speaking  at a one Day Media Executives held at the NPC office, Maiduguri on  Tuesday, the NPC Federal Commissioner Borno state, Barrister Isa Buratai said ” the commission has carried out Ennui  Demarcation Areas ((ADE), in 773 local government areas across the the country, except Abadam local government due insecurity and I am assuring them that they would be demarcated and be counted as the security situation has improved “.

 

 

 

 

” I Want to use the opportunity to commend the military and the Borno state government for the success of the ADEs across the state and the improved security in Abadam LGA and other part’s, as well as other supports the commission has been enjoying “, Barrister Buratai added.

 

 

 

 

The Federal Commissioner said ” the interactive session was converned   to intimate the media about the reasons of the shift in the date of the census exercise and the preparations so far since the former president Buhari approval for the shift, where he asked us to continue with preparations.”.

 

 

 

 

He said already, slot of activities such as training of the national, zonal and state  facilitators have been done and only remains the traniing of the enumerators who would be at the field to be trained   at the local levels, stressing that all logistics such as Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) and other sensitive and non sensitive materials are in the custody of the CBN abx the commission’s stores.

 

 

 

Barrister Buratai said a total of 23,000 enumerators and other adhoc staff have been engaged in Borno state alone, with 1,600 facilitators, and supervisors from university of Maiduguri, Ramat polytechnics, Borno state Universality among other tertiary institutions.

 

 

He further expanded contrary to media reports that the commission has spent N800 billion on its preparations so far,  the amount was the budgets of the commission and that N200 billion expended such includes the salary of it’s staff, the allowances of the adhoc staff, purchase of devices among other logistics.

 

 

 

While commending the media for the support, the commissioner said ” the media is a critical stakeholder in the process of the census and I assured you that you that you will be carried alone in all the process of the exercise “..

 

 

In his remarks,, the Acting Director of the NPC Borno state, Alhaji Haruna Ibrahim appreciated the media for their continued support and  honouring  their invitation despite the short notice.

 

 

 

Also speaking on behalf of the media, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Dauda Iluya  assured the commission of the continued support of the working journalists in the state in ensuring the success of the population and housing census.,
