Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the killing of the wife of the Commander of Ebubeagu Security Outfit Mr Onyeku Kalu Chima, in Afikpo South Local Government Area and his house burnt down.
This was contained in a Press Release marked AZ:5200/EBS/PPRO/VOL.8/121 dated 01/01/2023 and signed by the Police Public Relations Officer SP Chris Anyanwu, titled “Case of murder, arson at Owutu Edda.
According to the Statement, “A report filed in by CSP Ayodele Umujose, the Divisional Police Officer, Afikpo-South Division, Ebonyi State, has it that the Ama-Etiti Amaoso Edda Youth Leader, Nnachi Mba, reported that, at about 0230hrs of 01/01/2023, the house of the Afikpo-South Ebubeagu Commander, Oyeku Kalu Chima located at Owutu Edda, was attacked and set ablaze while his wife Urenwa Kalu Chima was shot dead”
The Release noted, “It has not been established meantime, who perpetrated the dastardly act, however, the said Ebubeagu Commander, alleged that it was one Okporie Ashango and his cohorts that did it”
The Release restated that the State Commissioner of Police CP Aliyu Garba, has directed immediate investigation be activated by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge the State Criminal Investigation/Intelligence Department (SCIID), to unravel those behind the crimes.
‘Further to that, detectives of the State Criminal Intelligence Department (SCIID), and operatives of the Command’s Tactical Team’s, have taken over proceedings in the area”
“The Commissioner of Police orders that the perpetrators be fished out and brought to book pronto”
“It is rather unfortunate that mischief-makers are still fomenting fracas in the State in spite of the grace of witnessing a new year”
It would be recalled that last Wednesday crisis erupted in Afikpo South Local Government resulting to the killing of a 39-year-old man identified as Mr Eseni Egwu, a police officer and another person, following a bloody clash between thugs loyal to a party stalwart in the area and operatives of Ebubeagu Security Network.
Meanwhile, Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State, has ordered the arrest of the State All Progressive Congress (APC) Chairman Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha and the party House of Representative Candidate Hon Eni Uduma Chima over murder of three persons.
