…Urges Tinubu to intervene
After failing to grab the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket in last Thursday’s rerun primary election, Sen. Adams Oshiomhole’s godson, Dennis Idahosa, a leading gubernatorial aspirant in Edo State, last weekend stormed the APC National Secretariat with supporters threatening to sue the party for justice.
The protests, which took everyone by surprise, shows that there are still pockets of dessent over what some politicians claimed to be a flawed election process mired in controversies and dissatisfaction within the ranks of the All Progressives Congress members in Edo State.
Hon. Dennis Idahosa, a serving House of Representatives member, asserted that he was declared winner in various wards across Edo State, during the first round of the congress and he supported the claim with video evidence.
He wondered why Senator Monday Okpebholo was officially declared the winner by Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State, who replaced Chief Hope Uzodinma as the Chairman of the Edo APC primary election committee.
The angry and disappointed Idahosa expressed concern about the fairness of the election process and vowed to petition the appeal committee before going to court should the committee fail to restore him as winner.
He warned that ignoring the grievances arising from the congress would create dire consequences for the APC in Edo State.
One of the important issues raised by Idahosa was the alleged illegal substitution of Hope Uzodinma as the committee chairman without corresponding replacement of the entire committee members, arguing that the action seriously cast doubts on the transparency of the procedure.
Idahosa also criticized the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC for declaring the primaries inconclusive following the controversy surrounding the elections conducted on February 17th, 2024 which was largely undermined by violence.
