Farmers scared as herders invade Ondo community

Ikakumo Akoko , an agrarian community in Akoko North East Local Government being described as food baskets of Ondo State, is now a shadow of itself due to the influx of herders in the land.

 

The community, which borders Edo, Kogi and Akunu had Ebiras in the forest doing meaningful agricultural activities.

 

However, herders have been destroying farms and chasing away the farmers including the indigenes from their farms.

 

It is on record that Ikakumo market before attracted people from various places to purchase foodstuffs particularly yam.

 

Speaking to our reporters, a community leader, Mr. Sunday Omogboye, said many bloody cases of farmers and herders had been reported while insecurity had made many farmers to abandon their farm lands.

 

Another community leader, Foluso Aminu, revealed that many agricultural investors who are interested in making mechanized farming that will create employment for the teeming unemployed youths are scared because of insecurity and poor road network

 

The duo urged government to give priorities to Ikakumo I the area of infrastructures and security being a border town.
