Gov Inuwa applauds Lafarge for empowering 15 women with truck driving skills

Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe state has commended Lafarge Africa Plc for training and graduating 15 female truck drivers and 5 male community drivers in Gombe State, under its Women on Wheels initiative.

The graduation ceremony took place today at the company’s Ashaka Cement Plant in Gombe State.

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Mohammed Inuwa Yahaya, represented by his deputy, Manasseh Jatau, praised Lafarge for addressing societal challenges by creating opportunities for young women through the programme.

“This is a commendable approach,” he said.
Lafarge Africa’s Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Lolu Alade-Akinyemi, described the graduation as a defining moment that reflects progress, hope, and Nigeria’s evolving construction and logistics landscape.

“You have broken barriers and shattered glass ceilings. Remain courageous, take pride in your work, and represent excellence,” he told the graduates.

The Logistics Director of Lafarge Africa Plc, Osazemen Aghatise, said the Women on Wheels initiative has broken barriers and marked a new chapter in the company’s history.

He urged the graduates to uphold discipline, professionalism, and safety standards.

Responding on behalf of the graduates, Judith Baka,
the best graduating driver, thanked Lafarge Africa Plc for the opportunity, saying it has positioned her to achieve her aspirations.

Our Correspondent gathered that, since 2019, Lafarge Africa Plc has trained over 100 female truck drivers, committing to drive sustainable impact by empowering women and shaping Nigeria’s building and construction industry.
