Former governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Umar Abdullahi, otherwise known as Tata, has defected from the ruling party to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Abdullahi participated in last week’s keenly contested primary with eight aspirants on the ballot of the election won overwhelmingly by Dr. Dikko Radda, former chief executive if Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN).
Speaking to Daily Champion on the speculations making the rounds that Abdullahi had left APC for PDP, a close ally of the aspirant who is incidentally from the same local government area, Dutsin-ma, with him, Malam Danjuma Mohammed, confirmed the defection which he attributed to more acceptability of the governorship candidate of PDP, Sen. Yakubu Lado, by residents of the state.
Danjuma’s words: “I spoke with him this morning and he confirmed that he had dumped APC. He said having compared Dikko Radda with Yakubu Lado, his analysis indicated that Yakubu Lado was much better prepared and ready to move Katsina forward than Dikko Radda. So, that is why decided to join PDP.
“Secondly, he said that he had seen the achievements of Lado in Kankara (Lado’s hometown) but he could not see what Dikko Radd had done for his people.
“Furthermore, Abdullahi said he was in the APC because of Governor Aminu Bello Mssari as the governor had stepped into the last lap of his final term, there was no reason for him to remained in the party.
