…FG, LASG to resolve incessant explosions on Otedola Bridge

The Lagos State Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-Governmnetal Relations, Engr Tayo Bamgbose-Martins said on Wednesday that the State Government in conjunction with the Federal ministry of works has put machinery in motion to address the incessant fire explosions on the popular Otedola Bridge at Alausa area of Lagos.

The Commissioner made the disclosure while addressing the press as part of the activities to mark the second anniversary of the State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration in office.

He said, “It is a techicial issue, it has to do with engineering but not demoinc. It has to do with the slope and the curve of the bridge. It is not a defect, it creates structural highway challenges.

“When you have a slope and a curve, you need extra caution when you drive. So the truck drivers drive recklessly and the trucks are overloaded. Most of the drivers do not attend any driving schools and some of them are on drug,” the Commissioner said.

He, however, stated, “It is being addressed through the effort of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Works, Mrs Aramide Adeyoye and Federal ministry of works.”

Commenting on the ministry’s effort to combat fire and other disasters in the State, he stated, “In the last two years, the Lagos Government had successfully saved an estimated worth of properties amounting to N138.54bn.

“A total number of 2,309 fire and other related emergency calls were also attended to in the last two years.

“10 percent out of the 1,899 fire outbreaks that occured in the State were also reduced.”

According to him, “The State Fire & Rescue Service in the last two years recorded landmark achievements, largely due to the tremendous support and encouragement received from the state government led by Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu.”
