Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos governor  announced on Friday that construction of the long-awaited fourth mainland bridge is set to begin in the coming months.

The governor made the announcement during the inauguration of the newly upgraded Oba Sekumade Road in Ipakodo, Ikorodu, where he also promised to accelerate development in the state over the next four years.

The fourth mainland bridge project will cut across major sections of the Sagamu-Ikorodu expressway and connect to the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, opening up Ikorodu to the rest of the world.

The bridge is expected to be completed by 2027, according to Sanwo-Olu.

Aramide Adeyoye, the governor’s special adviser on works and infrastructure, said the upgrade of Oba Sekumade road to a rigid pavement dual carriageway will solve traffic problems and flooding issues that have been threatening adjacent residential communities.

She added that the road upgrade will translate into improved free flow of traffic and reduced travel time for business owners in the area and the motoring public at large.

“I believe that with the rehabilitation and upgrade of this road, the challenge of flooding and inadequate capacity will now become a thing of the past,” she said.

“This in turn will also translate into improved free flow of traffic and a much-needed reduction in travel time for business owners in the area and the motoring public at large.”

The announcement of the fourth mainland bridge project has been long-awaited by residents of Lagos, who hope that the new bridge will ease traffic congestion in the city and improve transportation across the region.

With the construction set to begin in the coming months, Lagosians can look forward to the much-needed infrastructure development that will come with the completion of the project in 2027.
