Director General of National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ambassador Ahmed Rufai Abubakar, has launched a digital platform to begin an intensive awareness creation on climate change issues in the North.
Abubakar will also empower women and youths in the region, especially his home State, Katsina, and continue to invest in agriculture and agro-allied sector after his national engagement.
The erstwhile Senior Special Assistant to the President on International Relations and Foreign Affairs until his appointment as NIA boss, who disclosed this to newsmen in Katsina said the purpose of last week’s polo exhibition match organized by his friends and colleagues in his honour as Sardaunan was to raise awareness to get sponsors for the activities related to the good causes.
To actualize this, Abubakar revealed that they plan to make the polo exhibition match and seminar that marked part of his turbaning ceremony an annual or bi-annual events .
He also gave an assurance that “this is what is expected of him as Sardaunan and as citizen of the country, who has the kind of trajectory I have gone through.
“In education, I enjoyed State scholarship, I am in government and all the privileges and honour that I have received. So, I am willing and ready to continue to render services.”
While acknowledging the success of the Aviation Minister, Sen. Hadi Sirika, led turbaning organizing committee, the NIA chief executive expressed gratitude to individuals and groups that worked tirelessly in the last three months ahead of the historic event.
“There is no way I would have been able to sponsor (the event) or even the feeding (of the guests). Friends and well wishers really contributed; friends and colleagues came from far and near: from Central Africa Republic, Chad, Cameroon, Guinea Bissau, Senegal and many more; People came from all places.
“And from Nigeria here, colleagues: serving or retired; ministers, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and colleagues in the Presidency besides the representatives of heads of states. You name it,” Abubakar stated.
