Oil subsidy wahala : major transporters vow no hike in fare if given 15% subsidy

As Nigeria Labour Congress NLC, prepares to ground the country between 27th January 2022 to 1st February 2022,  over alleged plan to remove oil subsidy by the Federal Government, major transporters in the country especially from Southeast zone said that the problem lied on the exorbitant hike in transport fare vowing that there would not be hike in the transport fares if 10 to15 per cent of the money meant as oil subsidy was given to them.

 

Making this disclosure while Fielding questions from newsmen in his Adazi-Ani country home, Anambra state, as he celebrated the new year with children of the poor, Chief Godwin Ubaka Okeke, a transport magnet, reiterated that, “the Federal Government should call the major transporters for a meeting especially those from the South East zone and we will sign an agreement that the fare will not be increased if we are given 10 to 15 per cent of the money meant for oil subsidy”

 

“If the transport fare is not increased what again are you talking.sbout. the problem is that some people are sharing the oil subsidy money meant to benefit the masses” he hinted further.

 

On the party he held for the poor children he disclosed that he has been doing that for over 35 years adding that yearly he gives scholarship to scores who are brilliant but could not afford school fees.

 

“We also present cash, books, and other writing materials to them at the end of the party when they have been feted with rice and drinks ” the transporter disclosed. END.
