Ondo Auto Accident Claims Five Lives.

Tragedy struck on Sunday in the ancient town of Ikaram, Akoko Northwest local government area of Ondo state as a lone ghastly motor accident claimed five lives while many occupants of the 18  passengers Jos-bound commercial bus had various degrees of injuries.

 

Men of the Federal Road Safety Commission(FRSC) Ikare unit with police and sympathisers were said to have involved in the rescue operations as many people were wailing.

 

An eyewitness said the ill-fated bus suddenly had tyre burst while on high speed in a junction leading to Ajowa  and Akunu-Akoko.

 

A telephone call to the unit commander of FRSC Ikare-Akoko,Oluropo Alabi said he was not in position to give accurate figures of victims as the rescue operations is still on.

 

He said various seminars ,warning and caution had been made particularly on reckless driving ,the usage of expired tyres and other roads regulations.

 

Efforts to speak with the Chief Medical Officer (CMD)  State Specialist Hospital,Ikare, Dr Ade Idowu failed.

 

However, a mortuary attendant who pleaded anonymity said six bodies had been deposited in the morgue,while many others were in emergency ward of the hospital.

 

The paramount ruler of Ikaram -Akoko, Oba Andrew Momodu said the community had approached Federal Ministry of Works and Federal Emergency Road Maintainance Agency(FERMA) to build speed break around the junction which always record incessant motor accidents.
