Over 2,000 Plateau IDPs household gets Plan International interventions
…benefits N60,000 cash each

About 2,010 internally displaced persons (IDPs) household in Mangu and Bokkos local government areas of Plateau state have gotten ‘Plan International’ interventions.
Despite Plateau State Government efforts to resettle IDPs back to their communities, the victims continue lamenting their ordeal in the camps.
Daily Champion Newspaper who monitored the symbolic presentation of relief materials to the victims Wednesday in Mangu, Mangu local government observed that assorted nonfood items and N60,000 were given to each of the 2,010 households.
Mr. Hanoch Hebron, gender advisor Plan International confirmed the gesture is in collaboration with Action aid, Christian aid and supported by Start Network.
“Today we are here in Mangu local government to support the people that were affected by the crisis through the provision of nonfood items supported by Plan International.So this is just the starting point of all the distributions that will be happening in this few days.
“Some of the items includes; matrices, bowls, mosquito nets, torchlights, blankets, laundry soaps, bathing soap, kitchen accessories; such as knifes,plates, spoons among other items.
“The items intended to support those households to restore their dignity and basic needs so that they can go about their normal lives despite what has happened to them.
“All together we are supporting about 2,010 households. The distribution exercise is going to be taking place in Tielangpat, Chikam and two other locations that form part of Mangu and Bokkos.
“In this location, that is Mangu we have a total of 282 household beneficiaries while in other locations we have up to 700 and so on and so forth.
“We also encourage beneficiaries with cash in order for them not to sell the items, rather they should use those items for the benefit of their homes and enjoy the benefits of this intervention.”
Transition Implementation Committee, Chairman of Mangu local government, Samuel Artu while applauding donors, said Governor Mutfwang intensify priority towards resettling victims back to their ancestral homes.
He assured government continuous engagement with stakeholders in bringing peace and security in Plateau communities.
District head of Mangu, His Royal Highness, Job Dapal Dapunyal, and CAN vice chairman Mangu LGA, Dr. Joseph Opara prayed God to replenish donors efforts that came to the aid of traumatized people.
Some of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Happy Dauda Sarpiya and Mrs. Lydia Luka who expressed delight promised to use the items judiciously saying, the money given will enable them to begin a new chapter of their lives!
