About five officers of the Osun State Western Nigeria Security Network code-named Amotekun Corps were on Sunday, attacked by some hoodlums during the swearing-in ceremony of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
It was gathered that the political thugs who accompanied the new governor at the entrance of the Osogbo city stadium pounced on the Amotekun officials on sighting them.
It was learnt that the attacked officers were rushed to an undisclosed hospital for medical attention as they were badly injured.
“The suspected hoodlums descended on Amotekun without any justifiable reasons. But it was learnt that the attack was targeted on them on the grounds that the immediate past administration inaugurated Amotekun, hence they want to show that the present administration is against the formation,” an eye witness disclosed.
A police source, confirming the incident at the venue noted that the police are on the trail of the hoodlums and they will soon be nabbed.
However, Governor Ademola Adeleke has promised to embark on a security sector reform that will target crime prevention, detection, neighbourhood policing and better synergy among security agencies
He said Amotekun Corps will be strengthened under his administration and will ensure operational linkage between local hunters and the Amotekun Corps.
He added that his administration will focus on security reform that will target crime prevention, detection, neighbourhood policing and better synergy among security agencies.
“The Amotekun Corps will be strengthened while our administration will ensure operational linkage between local hunters and the Amotekun Corps. A “Know Your Neighbour” security initiative will be implemented. By the grace of God, very soon, Osun will return to its old nature of being a haven of peace.” Adeleke stated
