Stop assaulting IBEDC officials, MD begs customers

The Managing Director of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, Kingsley Achife, has appealed to customers of the utility company to stop assaulting its workers on the field.

He made the plea in his Eid-il-Fitri statement, which was made available to our correspondent.

Achife, who emphasised the importance of the season’s sacrifice in fostering love and selflessness for Nigeria’s prosperity, said it was criminal to attack IBEDC.

He urged customers to report all complaints to IBEDC offices or call the customer care line, saying an attack on the company’s staff attracts jail terms.

“The managing director appealed to customers to stop assaulting IBEDC staff, as it is a criminal offence that can attract jail terms.

“He urged customers to report complaints to IBEDC offices or call the customer care line,” the statement read in part.

Achife also warned against tampering with electrical installations, highlighting the dangers of such actions, which could lead to electrical accidents.

He advised communities to watch over their electrical installations and report any suspected acts of vandalism.

“It is important that communities join us in the fight against vandalism to avoid being plunged into darkness,” he said.

Speaking with The PUNCH, the IBEDC spokesperson, Busolami Tunwase, noted that the company recorded near-assault cases this year, adding that it would not want the same to continue.

“This year, we had near-assault cases. We don’t want it to become an issue, that is why we are appealing,” she remarked.

It could be recalled that electricity customers across Nigeria have on different occasions had issues with workers of power companies, especially while trying to disconnect customers over unpaid bills.
