Music, dance and youthful energy take over campus as Opeyemi wins Bigi Music Competition

Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, came alive recently as music, dance and youthful energy took over the campus, bringing the YABATECH edition of Soundcity OnTour to an electrifying close.
The three-day campus experience, which kicked off on September 15, brought together music, talent and entertainment, culminating in the much-anticipated final of the Bigi Music Competition. With a ₦1 million cash prize and the opportunity to take their talent to an even bigger stage at stake, emerging artistes took to the stage to compete for the campus crown.
When the final performance ended, Oladapo Taiwo Opeyemi emerged winner, earning the top spot after a keenly contested competition.
Iheanacho Favour Emeka emerged first runner-up, while Anikene Victor Chidera finished as second runner-up, rounding off a competitive night that showcased the diverse sounds, personalities and performance styles of YABATECH’s emerging talents.
But the Bigi Music Competition was only one part of the excitement.
The Fearless Dance Challenge added another burst of energy to the experience, as students took over the stage with impressive moves, creativity and self-expression. The performances, cheers and crowd reactions captured the free-spirited atmosphere that defined the YABATECH edition of Soundcity OnTour.
The energy continued into the concert, as Modola, Táríq, Syemca, Slimcase, Mr P and Kodee, alongside Duuwa and Rukmani, delivered performances that kept students singing, dancing and fully immersed in the moment.
For a campus already buzzing with excitement, the performances transformed the evening into a vibrant entertainment experience, bringing students together through music, dance and shared moments.
Beyond the lights, music and celebration, however, was a broader purpose: creating platforms where young Nigerians can express themselves, showcase their abilities and connect talent with opportunity.
Speaking on the activation, Ekuma Eze, Head of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability, Rite Foods Limited, said the Bigi and Fearless brands remained committed to creating meaningful platforms for young Nigerians to express their creativity.
“Young people are not waiting for culture to happen; they are creating it every day. Through the Bigi and Fearless brands, we want to meet them where that creativity is most visible and give them platforms where they can express themselves, discover their capabilities and connect with opportunities beyond the immediate moment,” he said.
As the lights went down at YABATECH and the final beats faded into the night, Soundcity OnTour left behind more than music and memories. It created a platform for talent to be seen, creativity to be celebrated and young people to take centre stage.
For Opeyemi, Favour and Chidera, it was an opportunity to turn talent into a moment of achievement. For the thousands of students who witnessed the experience, YABATECH once again demonstrated the energy and creativity that emerge when young people are given the space to express themselves.
