Kano Hibah Board arrests 32 prostitutes as 12 test positive to HIV

Irked by the Kano state sustained efforts to rid the state of nuisance and other criminal activities, on Saturday, the state’s Hisbah swung into action and arrested 32 prostitutes at a tomato market in Badume, in Bichi Local Government area of the state.

According to the state’s Hisbah Commandant, General Muhammad Harun Ibn Sina, the arrest was made from the tip off of the criminal activities of the sex workers in a joint operation with other security agents.

“We had a tip off from some of the locals about the activities of these individuals and Kano state which has always frown at any immorality, will still maintain such standard. It’s as a result of that my men and other security agents quickly swung into action to arrest the situation”. Muhammad said.

He also noted that out of the 32 prostitutes arrested, 12 had already tested positive for HIV, noting that 7 of  those who had already tested positive to the disease were already aware of their status,while the other 5 are unaware.

He stated that the arrested prostitutes are from Enugu,Edo,Katsina Cross River,Adamawa,Zamfara states and Cameroun republic.

Sheikh Adam submitted that there are male collaborators among the prostitutes ,which he said were handed over to the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for drugs related offences.

He concluded that the state will continue to crack down on individuals who are hellbent in eroding the moral stand the state is known for.
