The newly deployed Commissioner of Police in Osun state, Julius Alawari Okoro has arrived the state and resumed duty on Monday.

The former Commissioner of Police in the state, Olawale Olokode has been redeployed to Provost Mashal office, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

There are insinuations that Olokode was replaced due to the continuous demand for his removal over incompetence and reoccurring cases of police brutality in the state.

According to a statement issued by the State Command Spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola on Monday, Olokode was redeployed to avoid any kind of speculation that the sitting CP is aligning with any political party towards the forthcoming governorship election.

“The CP has arrived the State on 3rd July, 2022 and resumed duty/office today 4th July, 2022 following the redeployment of CP Olawale T. Olokode psc, to Provost Mashal office, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

“The CP Election is soliciting for the cooperation of all and sundry, especially during this electioneering period while enjoining the good people of the State to be law abiding and go about with their legitimate businesses without entertaining fear of insecurity.

“Necessary security measures to forestall any likely breakdown of law and order has been put in place,” the statement read.

Also, a statement by the Force PRO FHQ Abuja, Muyiwa Adejobi on Tuesday indicated that Olokode will return to the state after the governorship election.

“CP Olawale Olokode was just temporarily moved to the Force Headquarters pending the conclusion of the guber election when he would return to the State. This is contrary to the misinformation making the rounds.

“We want to be as transparent, professional and proactive as possible in all our engagements and operations in the Osun Gubernatorial Election, hence the deployment of senior officers from the FHQ to oversee the election security in the state.

“The IGP has ordered  necessary deployment  both human and material assets to fortify the state for the exercise,” Adejobi said.

However, Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola has urged residents of the state to be wary of the intimidation strategy of politicians as the governorship election in the state draws closer.

Oyetola, who spoke during his campaign at Ilesa on Tuesday, averred that no anti-democratic schemes will stand in the forthcoming poll.

He reassured the electorate of utmost safety before, during and after the election, saying necessary mechanisms will be put in place to ensure a hitch-free electoral process.

The governor said Osun was at a critical phase in its history, adding that if there is any time for citizens to act for the collective good and future of the state, the time is now.

Speaking in his palace earlier, Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijesaland, Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran assured a resounding victory for the governor in Ijesaland.

Oba Aromolaran said his confidence lies in the excellent performance of the Governor in the last three and a half years, saying his return for second term will be a walkover.

He said, “You are the incumbent Governor, but you have proved yourself with your satisfactory performance. You have not disappointed us in any way, and your emergence is not doubtful, especially among my people.

“Whoever stands by God will never fail. We thank you Mr. Governor for all you have done for us and we thank you for what you will be doing in your second term.

“The whole of Ijesaland and Osun are proud of you because you are a true Excellency who knows the value of education, good health system, and other critical indices of development. I don’t want to talk too much than to thank you.”
